Bhograi (Balasore): In a tragic accident, a 58-year-old tractor driver lost his life on Monday after the vehicle he was driving overturned and fell into a pond while transporting stone aggregates for a road construction project in Bhograi block of Balasore district.
The deceased has been identified as Pashupati Dey of Deunr village under Nachinda Panchayat.
According to sources, road construction work is currently underway on the Gabagaon–Alalbindha road under the Rural Development Department. On the day of the incident, Dey had loaded metal at Gabagaon and was proceeding along the under-construction stretch when he reportedly lost control of the tractor. The vehicle overturned and plunged into a nearby pond, leaving both the tractor and the driver submerged in water.
Local residents rushed to the spot and, with the help of an earth mover, managed to pull out the tractor and rescue Dey. He was immediately rushed to the Kamarda Community Health Centre, where doctors declared him brought dead.
Upon receiving information, Kamarda police reached the site and initiated an investigation into the incident. Further inquiry is underway to ascertain the exact circumstances that led to the mishap.
