Nabarangpur: In a daring late-night dacoity, six armed miscreants allegedly looted ₹70 lakh in cash and gold ornaments from a house in Kochiniamba village under Umerkote block of Nabarangpur district.
The robbery took place on the intervening night of Sunday and Monday at the residence of Amulya Jena , who was reportedly sleeping alone when the accused barged into the house after breaking open the main door. The miscreants allegedly placed weapons on his neck, threatened and abused him, and tied his hands and legs before carrying out the loot.
Sources said Jena had sold a piece of land around three months ago and had kept ₹70 lakh in cash at his house. The accused allegedly took away the entire cash amount, which was stored in the garage. They also looted gold ornaments, including 14 gold rings, three gold lockets, and a pair of ear studs belonging to his mother.
After committing the crime, the miscreants left Jena tied up inside the house and fled the scene. He later managed to free himself with great difficulty and alerted his family members, following which the matter was reported to the police.
Police personnel reached the spot in the morning and initiated an investigation from multiple angles.
