Bhubaneswar: Training for master trainers for the second phase of Census 2027, known as Population Enumeration, has begun in Odisha. The exercise is scheduled to continue over the next two months, Director of Census Operations Nikhil Pawan Kalyan said on Tuesday.
The training programme commenced at Gopabandhu Academy in Bhubaneswar on Monday as part of preparations for the nationwide population enumeration exercise.
Preparations for the second phase of the Census have been underway for the past three months, Kalyan said while speaking to a regional television channel.
“Last month, national trainers from different states received training in Delhi. The Office of the Director of Census Operations in Odisha has three national trainers who will impart training to state-level master trainers,” he said.
Officials from each district, including senior officers, census coordinators and nodal officers, have been invited to participate in the training programme.
The master trainers will subsequently train field trainers at the district level, who will, in turn, train enumerators and supervisors, Kalyan said.
The entire exercise will follow a cascade training model, beginning with national trainers, followed by master trainers and field trainers, and culminating in the training of enumerators and supervisors. The training process is expected to be completed over the next two months, he added.
Kalyan further said that the second phase of Census 2027 would comprise 40 questions covering individual details, demographic and socio-economic information, identity-related data and other particulars.
Meanwhile, the Centre has announced January 25 to February 28, 2027, as the period for conducting the next Census across most states and Union territories.
Self-enumeration will begin on January 10, according to a Gazette notification issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
