Dhenkanal: Four fuel tankers — three carrying diesel and one carrying petrol — caught fire at a stone-crushing unit near Sarapa under Rasol police station in Dhenkanal district, on Monday evening. No casualties were reported in the incident.
According to reports, the blaze initially broke out in two diesel tankers parked inside the crusher premises and quickly spread to other nearby vehicles. Thick plumes of smoke were seen billowing from the site, prompting local residents to alert the fire service.
Fire crews from Khajuriakata, Hindol Road and Rasol fire stations rushed to the scene and launched an intensive firefighting operation, using foam tenders to contain the flames. Additional support was provided by emergency response teams from Tata Steel, GMR Kamalanga and Rungta Mines. A robotic monitor unit from Angul was also deployed to assist in dousing the fire.
After sustained efforts, the blaze was brought under control and later completely extinguished.
Senior officials, including the SDPO of Hindol and the Sub-Collector of Hindol, were present at the scene to oversee the operation. The exact cause of the fire has yet to be ascertained.
