Bhubaneswar: Two workers lost their lives when a boundary wall collapsed during drain construction work in the Bhoi Sahi area under Ward No. 44 of Badagada in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday afternoon.
According to reports, six workers were engaged in drainage work in the locality when the boundary wall of a nearby house suddenly gave way. The structure collapsed without warning, trapping the workers beneath the debris and triggering panic in the area. Local residents rushed to the spot and, along with emergency responders, launched rescue efforts to pull the trapped workers out.
One worker died on the spot due to the impact of the collapse. Another critically injured worker was immediately shifted to Capital Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment. The deaths have cast a pall of gloom over the locality.
Four other workers sustained critical injuries in the mishap. Three of them are currently undergoing treatment at Capital Hospital. Family members of one of the injured have shifted him to a private hospital for advanced medical care. The condition of the injured workers is reported to be serious.
Hospital authorities have not yet released the identities of the deceased and injured. Further details regarding the circumstances leading to the wall collapse, including possible lapses in safety measures, are awaited. Authorities are expected to conduct a probe into the incident.
