Koraput: In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, the Koraput Police today dismantled an interstate temporary hashish oil manufacturing unit and seized 1,800 litres of hashish oil, valued at approximately Rs 200 crore, in the forested area near Jholaput Reservoir under Padua police station on the Odisha–Andhra Pradesh border.
The operation, meticulously planned and led by SP Koraput, Rohit Varma, was based on precise intelligence inputs. Due to the remote location and challenging terrain, police teams approached the site via boats and on foot, avoiding roads to maintain the element of surprise. The temporary manufacturing units, designed for rapid assembly and disassembly, had previously hampered raids in the region.
Alongside the hashish oil, officers recovered 1,000 kg of ganja, worth roughly Rs 5 crore, and seized multiple items used in the production process. The raid marks one of the largest drug busts in the area in recent years.
Deputy Inspector General of Police, South Western Range, Koraput, Kanwar Vishal Singh, stated that the masterminds behind the operation have been identified and will be apprehended shortly. He added that interstate links in the production and distribution of hashish oil have been established. The raid is ongoing, and further details have not been disclosed.
In a separate operation within Koraput District, two interstate smugglers from Haryana were apprehended with 1,143 kg of ganja, valued at Rs 5 crore, in the Nandapur police station area. The drugs were concealed inside plastic trays in two pickup vehicles. Four persons have been arrested in total, including two suppliers from Semiliguda, Koraput, and two receivers from Haryana State.
Police confirmed that investigations into both cases are continuing, with further arrests expected as inquiries progress.
