Angul: The Crime Branch Cyber Police arrested a couple for their alleged involvement in an online investment fraud scheme. The duo, Himansu Prasad Karna and Sailendri Karna, residents of Rajkishorepada, Angul, were arrested for duping a victim of Rs 1.55 crore.
The fraudsters, posing as “Stock Market Pioneers”, contacted the victim through social media and induced him to invest in a fake trading platform, promising high returns. The victim transferred money to seven different accounts as instructed by the accused.
The investigating team, led by inspector Namita Kumar Sahoo, seized incriminating materials, including cheque books, passbooks, phones, and SIMs. The accused have been forwarded to SDJM, Bhubaneswar.
The police are investigating the case under various sections of the BNS and IT Act. This bust highlights the growing concern of online investment scams, and the need for vigilance when dealing with unsolicited investment opportunities.
