Cuttack: The Silver City came alive on Sunday as food lovers gathered to celebrate ‘Dahibara Aludam Day’, an annual festival honouring one of Odisha’s most beloved street foods. The event, held at the Lower Baliyatra Ground, saw the participation of over 50 popular vendors serving thousands of residents and visitors, preserving the authentic street-style charm of the iconic dish.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi extended his greetings on the occasion via the social media platform X.
“Dahibara is not just food; it is an emotion for every Odia. Its taste represents a unique identity of our traditional food culture. Let us take Odia food culture to the world today on Dahibara Day,” he posted.
The festival, now in its second year, attracted food enthusiasts from across the State. Traditional stalls and setups at Lower Baliyatra Ground allowed visitors to savour Dahibara in its most authentic form, combining crisp vadas soaked in spiced yoghurt with the accompanying aludam, a potato curry that has long been a culinary favourite of the city.
Residents expressed their delight at the event.
“Today, the people of Cuttack have gathered with one heart and soul for Dahibara Day to enjoy its taste. The tradition started by Raghu Sasmal continues to thrive, and it is heartening to see it being kept alive,” said one local resident. Another added, “We people from Cuttack always come to eat Dahibara. On this special occasion, we visited ‘Cuttack-in-Cuttack’, where a grand celebration took place around 11 am. Dahibara is essential for us right from the moment we wake up.”
Celebrations extended beyond the city as villages and urban centres across the region joined in the festivities, reflecting the widespread love for this traditional dish.
The event not only highlighted the city’s culinary heritage but also reinforced Dahibara’s status as a cultural icon of Odisha.
As the aroma of freshly prepared vadas filled the air, food lovers savoured the rich flavours and enjoyed the communal spirit of the festival, making Dahibara Day 2026 a memorable celebration for the Silver City.
