Bhubaneswar: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Monday announced that the 110th birth anniversary of former Odisha Chief Minister Biju Patnaik will be celebrated across the state on March 5. The party has called on all district units, workers, and citizens to observe the day with enthusiasm and pay homage to the legendary leader.
Addressing a press conference in Bhubaneswar, BJD senior vice-president Debi Prasad Mishra said that floral tributes will be offered at Patnaik’s statues in different districts.
“Meetings and programmes will be organized to highlight his heroic contributions to the country and his role in India’s independence movement,” he added.
The BJD, named after Biju Patnaik following his demise in 1997, will also organise blood donation camps at various locations. Events will be held at the party headquarters, where Biju Patnaik’s younger son and BJD president Naveen Patnaik is expected to attend.
Earlier, March 5 was observed as Panchayati Raj Diwas on Biju Patnaik’s birth anniversary in Odisha. However, the day is now commemorated nationally on April 24 as National Panchayati Raj Diwas, marking the enactment of the 73rd Constitutional Amendment Act of 1992.
Mishra urged party workers and the public to participate actively and celebrate the legacy of a leader whose vision and contributions continue to inspire generations.
