Bhawanipatna: In a major crackdown on the illegal liquor trade, the Excise Department conducted a raid at Jagannath Pada under Dharmagarh area in Kalahandi district and busted a fake liquor manufacturing unit operating from a rented house.
During the raid, officials seized a large quantity of counterfeit liquor along with labels, seals and packaging materials of various reputed liquor companies. The accused were allegedly using these materials to manufacture and package spurious liquor, which was then supplied to different areas.
Two persons, both residents of Bihar, have been arrested in connection with the case. According to preliminary investigation, the duo had rented a house in Jagannath Pada and were running the illegal operation clandestinely. They were allegedly preparing fake liquor and distributing it to local markets, posing a serious threat to public health and safety.
Excise officials have initiated further investigation to ascertain the scale of distribution and identify other possible links in the supply chain. More arrests are likely as the probe progresses.
