Jagatsinghpur: A family dispute in Jagatsinghpur district took a tragic turn after a 102-year-old man allegedly attacked his daughter-in-law with an axe before later being found hanging at his residence.

The shocking incident occurred late Friday night at Mallick Sahi in Bhutamundai village under Paradip Lock Police Station limits. The deceased has been identified as Batakrishna Mallick  (102).

According to police sources, a verbal altercation had broken out earlier between Batakrishna Mallick and his daughter-in-law over a family dispute. The argument reportedly escalated later in the night. While the woman was asleep, the elderly man allegedly attacked her with an axe, leaving her seriously injured.

The injured woman was immediately rushed to Kujang Medical for treatment. After receiving medical care in critical condition, she later returned home, where the family discovered Batakrishna Mallick hanging inside a semi-constructed house located in the backyard of the residence.

Family members suspect that the elderly man died by suicide following the attack. However, police have launched an investigation to ascertain the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.

Upon receiving information, personnel from Paradip Lock Police Station, along with a scientific team, reached the spot and began a detailed probe. The police seized the suspected weapon and other materials from the scene. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination.

Authorities stated that further investigation is underway to determine the sequence of events leading to the tragic incident.
