Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a nowcast warning for several districts of Odisha, forecasting light to moderate thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and light rain at one or two places within the next three hours.
According to the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar, the districts likely to be affected include Sambalpur, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Ganjam and Nayagarh. The alert was issued at 6:00 PM on Saturday.
The weather office has categorised the warning as a Yellow Message, advising residents to remain aware and monitor weather conditions closely. Authorities cautioned that lightning activity may pose risks in vulnerable areas during the period.
People in the affected districts have been advised to keep a watch on the weather and be prepared to move to safer places if conditions worsen, particularly to protect themselves from lightning strikes.
The Meteorological Centre stated that the nowcast warning is based on current weather observations and may be updated depending on the movement and intensity of the system.
