Bhubaneswar: Security was tightened at the District and Sessions Courts in Puri and Keonjhar on Monday after authorities received a bomb threat through an email, prompting an immediate response from police and bomb disposal teams.
According to sources, the email warned that improvised explosive devices (IEDs) had been planted inside the court premises and claimed they would be detonated later in the afternoon. The message triggered panic among lawyers, court staff, and visitors present at the complexes.
Acting swiftly, local police rushed to the two court premises along with anti-bomb squads and began extensive searches of the buildings and surrounding areas. Security arrangements were intensified as a precautionary measure to safeguard people inside the courts.
Officials said the threat is being treated seriously, and detailed checks were underway to rule out any security risk. Entry and movement around the court complexes were also monitored closely during the search operation.
Authorities noted that similar threatening emails had been received by courts earlier this month as well. Police have initiated an investigation to trace the sender and verify the authenticity of the latest threat while maintaining heightened security at the affected locations.
