Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi today announced a two-day extension of the ongoing Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) exhibition at the IDCO Exhibition Ground in Unit-3, Bhubaneswar. The exhibition, originally scheduled to conclude today, will now remain open until the 12th of this month.
The extension was ordered by the Chief Minister during his visit to the exhibition, which was organized by Odisha Police. The event was first inaugurated on March 6th by Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah.
During his visit, Chief Minister Majhi praised the initiative, particularly lauding a street play (nukkad natak) that effectively conveyed awareness messages to the public. He also commended the high-quality stalls set up by various departments of the Home Ministry, describing them as instrumental in educating citizens.
Speaking to the media, the Chief Minister positioned the new legal framework as a landmark achievement. “This Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita is the best proof of the successful resolve of our respected Prime Minister Narendra Modi to provide security and justice to the citizens of the country,” he stated. He emphasized that the enactment of these laws marks the end of the colonial era in India’s crime control framework, ushering in a system aligned with the ideals of an independent India.
CM Majhi highlighted the tangible impact of the new laws in Odisha, citing significant improvements in the criminal justice system. He noted that since the implementation of the BNS, the conviction rate of the guilty in the state has surged by 87.6% by the end of 2025. He described this as a “massive success.”
Furthermore, he pointed to improvements across the board, from investigation to trial. A key indicator of this progress, he said, is the dramatic 166% increase in the number of Zero FIRs registered in 2025, which allows victims to file complaints at any police station irrespective of jurisdiction.
The Chief Minister also outlined several complementary initiatives aimed at modernizing the police force. These include the laying of foundation stones for the National Forensic Science University and the Central Forensic Science Laboratory. To enhance technological proficiency, an MoU has been signed with IIT Bhubaneswar. Additionally, a partnership has been established with the National Defence University to provide police personnel with training in various modern skills.
Senior officers of Odisha Police were present at the exhibition, which also saw active participation from students of various schools and law colleges in the city.
