Bhubaneswar: The state government has approved a new project to construct block-level stadiums in state as part of efforts to promote sports in rural areas, informed Minister of State for Sports and Youth Services, Suryavanshi Suraj.

Replying to a query raised by MLA Kalikesh Narayan Singh Deo seeking reports on measures being taken to develop sports infrastructure in Balangir district, Sports Minister informed the Assembly that 14 new stadiums will be built in Balangir, with facilities like football and cricket fields, athletic tracks, and indoor halls for badminton and yoga.

The project, expected to be completed by 2029, has a budget allocation of Rs 4.12 crore. Under this project, administrative approvals have already been given for stadiums in Khaparakhol and Patnagarh blocks. No proposal is currently under consideration for hosting a national-level half-marathon in Balangir, the Minister added.
