Bhubaneswar: Chief Secretary Anu Garg emphasized Odisha’s potential to achieve its vision of a developed state by 2036, leveraging its blue economy.
Addressing the Global Summit on Blue Economy 2026, Garg highlighted the state’s 575 km coastline and EDGE strengths – economic fundamentals, demography, geography, and ecosystem.
Garg outlined Odisha’s ambition to contribute 5% to India’s GDP by 2047, driven by fisheries, maritime infrastructure, tourism, and biotechnology through OMBRIC. Dr M. Ravichandran, Ministry of Earth Sciences, stressed exploring oceans’ vast potential, citing climate challenges and innovation needs. Timor-Leste’s Ambassador Karlito Nunes emphasized international cooperation.
The summit discusses fisheries, biodiversity, climate resilience, and more, positioning Odisha as a Blue Economy hub
Students, researchers, and faculty will also participate, with abstracts published in the conference souvenir.
Selected research contributions will be considered for publication and excellence recognition in association with Taylor and Francis. The summit aligns with India’s vision of Maritime India Vision 2030 and Viksit Bharat @2047, while highlighting Odisha’s growing role as a hub for innovation and sustainable ocean-based industries, supported by its long coastline and strategic maritime position.
