Bhubaneswar: A heart-warming mass marriage ceremony was successfully held in Balasore district under the state government’s flagship Mukhyamantri Kanya Vivah Yojana, where 40 couples exchanged vows in a dignified collective event.
The programme, organised at the district level, provided eligible brides from economically weaker sections with essential financial support to ensure hassle-free and respectful marriages. The scheme aims to alleviate the financial burden on poor families, promote dowry-free unions, encourage marriage registration, and support social empowerment of women.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi hailed the initiative as more than just financial aid. “This scheme is not only financial assistance but also a strong step towards the respect, security, and social justice for our Kanya Ratna (daughters),” he stated.
He further emphasized that under the Kanya Vivah Yojana, daughters are advancing in life with dignity, new hopes, and dreams. “Such efforts will continue in the coming days to ensure social security, respect, and empowerment of women. Our government is always committed to empowering and enriching women,” the CM affirmed.
Launched earlier in 2026, the Mukhyamantri Kanya Vivah Yojana offers around Rs 60,000 per eligible bride, benefiting brides aged 18 and above. Similar mass weddings have been organised across districts like Cuttack, Sundargarh, and others recently, reflecting the government’s push for inclusive welfare.
