Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) on Tuesday suspended three of its MLAs—Ramesh Chandra Jena (Sanakhemundi), Dasarathi Gamango (Mohana) and Sofia Firdous (Barabati-Cuttack)—for allegedly violating party discipline in the Rajya Sabha elections held on March 16.
According to an official statement issued by the OPCC, the legislators acted against the party’s ideology by supporting candidates backed by the BJP, thereby undermining the Congress’s position. The decision to suspend the three MLAs was taken after careful review of their actions, which were deemed detrimental to the party’s interests and unity.
The OPCC emphasised that maintaining party discipline is crucial, and any attempt to breach the party line or work against its principles would be dealt with firmly. The statement added that the move was necessary to safeguard the organisation’s integrity and ensure cohesive functioning of the Congress legislative wing in the state.
