Bhubaneswar: A senior auditor with the Regional Director of Education (RDE) office in Bhubaneswar was caught red-handed taking a Rs 4,000 bribe from a college staffer, officials said today.
Ambika Prasad Rath, the accused auditor, demanded the bribe for verifying service records and correcting pay fixation statements under the MACP scheme.
Acting on a complaint, vigilance authorities trapped Rath while taking the bribe and recovered the entire amount. A search at his office and residence led to the seizure of an additional Rs 1,28,000 suspected to be earlier bribes.
A case (Bhubaneswar Vigilance P.S. Case No. 04/2026) has been registered against Rath under Section 7 PC (Amendment) Act, 2018, and investigation is underway.
