Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Rural Development and Marketing Society (ORMAS), under the Panchayati Raj & Drinking Water Department, has successfully procured 128.30 metric tonnes of tomatoes from five districts as part of a special marketing initiative aimed at providing farmers with fair prices and a reliable market.
Under the program, tomatoes were collected from Ganjam, Cuttack, Angul, Jharsuguda, and Jagatsinghpur through self-help groups (SHGs) and farmer producer organisations (FPOs). Cuttack contributed 53 metric tonnes, Ganjam 33.80 tonnes, Angul 20 tonnes, Jharsuguda 18 tonnes, and Jagatsinghpur 3.50 tonnes, all supplied to Bharat Masala for further processing.
Officials said the initiative is directly benefiting farmers by creating assured marketing opportunities and stabilising prices.
The drive also promotes self-help groups and FPOs, helping them establish sustainable channels for marketing agricultural products.
