Cuttack: A Class III disabled girl student allegedly lost vision in her left eye after being beaten by a teacher for going to the toilet, in a shocking incident reported from Siripur village under Mahanga police station in Cuttack district.
The victim has been identified as Debasmita Samal, daughter of Amulya Kumar Samal of Siripur. According to her father, Debasmita, a disabled student of Siripur Primary School, was beaten by in-charge headmistress Mamata Dehuri on Thursday for going to the toilet.
The girl’s father said he filed a written complaint at Mahanga police station yesterday. The girl was admitted to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar where doctors said her left eye is completely damaged, he alleged.
Denying the allegation, headmistress Mamata Dehuri said she did not beat the student at all and the complaint was made against her for some other reason.
Police have started investigation into the incident. SDPO said preliminary inquiry suggests the eye was damaged after something hit it and assured that police will take strict action in the incident.
