Bhubaneswar: In a continuous drive against drug trafficking, Excise officials arrested a 42-year-old man from Gandhipalli Chhak under Chauliaganj police station limits and seized 34 grams of heroin valued at Rs 3.40 lakh.
The accused was apprehended during a raid by the Excise Department. A case has been registered at Excise Station, Cuttack-III under Section 21(b) of the NDPS Act. He was later forwarded to the District Sessions Court in Cuttack.
In a separate crackdown, Excise sleuths arrested two ganja smugglers including a woman — Laxan Das (43) and Jasoda Das (38) — from the Bidanasi area in Cuttack. From their possession, 4.5 kg of ganja worth Rs 1.15 lakh was recovered.
All three accused have been produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody. Further investigation is underway to trace the source of the narcotics and identify other members of the drug network.
