Bhubaneswar: Around 6.77 lakh households in urban areas across Odisha have been provided with piped drinking water connections, Housing & Urban Development Minister Dr. Krushna Chandra Mahapatra informed the state assembly on Tuesday.
In a written reply to a question by Rourkela MLA Sarada Prasad Nayak, the minister said that 29 Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) in the state are currently covered under the Water Corporation of Odisha (WATCO), which is implementing piped water supply projects in urban areas.
He further stated that 86 ULBs are under the Public Health Engineering Organisation (PHEO), where around 4,24,992 households are being provided with piped drinking water supply connections.
Highlighting the situation in Rourkela, Mahapatra said that 56,731 households in the Rourkela Municipal Corporation area are currently receiving piped water supply.
The minister added that the state government is continuing efforts to expand piped water supply coverage across urban areas to ensure safe and reliable drinking water for residents.
