Bhubaneswar: Several parts of Odisha continued to reel under intense heat on Wednesday, with temperatures soaring close to 40°C in multiple districts, according to the evening weather bulletin issued by the India Meteorological Department’s Meteorological Centre Bhubaneswar.
Balangir and Titlagarh emerged as the hottest places in the state, recording a maximum temperature of 39.5°C, closely followed by Boudh at 38.9°C and Jharsuguda at 38.4°C. Other districts such as Sambalpur (38.4°C), Hirakud (38.0°C), and Talcher (38.0°C) also reported high daytime temperatures, indicating a widespread heatwave-like condition across western Odisha.
The capital city Bhubaneswar recorded a maximum temperature of 37.5°C, while Cuttack registered 36.4°C. Coastal areas, though relatively less hot compared to interior districts, still experienced uncomfortable conditions with high humidity levels. Chandbali reported a high of 37.5°C, with relative humidity peaking at 79%, contributing to sultry weather.
Minimum temperatures across the state largely hovered between 20°C and 26°C, offering little nighttime relief. Jharsuguda recorded one of the lowest minimum temperatures at 19.6°C, while Paradip reported a relatively higher minimum of 25.5°C.
Humidity levels remained significantly high in several districts, particularly in coastal and southern regions. Gopalpur recorded 84% relative humidity in the evening, followed by Paradip (78%) and Balasore (79%), intensifying discomfort despite marginally lower temperatures.
Rainfall activity remained negligible across the state, with most stations reporting no rainfall in the past 24 hours. Only trace rainfall was recorded in isolated locations such as Balasore and Jharsuguda, indicating largely dry conditions prevailing over Odisha.
The IMD has indicated that the prevailing dry and hot weather conditions are likely to persist, with no significant rainfall activity expected in the immediate future. Residents, particularly in western districts, are advised to take precautions against heat exposure, including staying hydrated and avoiding outdoor activities during peak afternoon hours.
