Bhubaneswar: Three persons were killed when a speeding truck rammed into the rear of a stationary truck on National Highway 16 late Sunday night.
The accident occurred in front of the Modern Hotel at Dahisada under Soro police limits in Balasore district.
According to reports, one truck had broken down and was parked on the roadside. While it was stationary, another truck travelling from Balasore towards Soro collided with it from behind at high speed. The collision was so violent that the rear truck was completely crushed and damaged beyond recognition. Three persons travelling in the rear truck were trapped inside the wreckage.
Upon receiving information, firefighters from the Soro Fire Service Station rushed to the spot with gas cutters and extricated the victims from the mangled truck. They were immediately shifted to Soro Hospital by National Highway ambulance. However, doctors declared all three dead on arrival.
Soro police reached the spot, seized both trucks, and have initiated an investigation into the cause of the accident. The exact identities of the deceased are yet to be officially confirmed.
