Bhubaneswar: Former Odisha Chief Minister and Biju Janata Dal (BJD) president Naveen Patnaik left for New Delhi on Friday to meet his ailing elder brother, Prem Patnaik, who recently underwent major heart surgery.
According to reports, Prem Patnaik was admitted to a hospital in the national capital and had a heart operation on Tuesday. Naveen Patnaik is travelling to Delhi primarily to inquire about his brother’s health and spend time with him during the recovery period.
Senior BJD leader Debi Mishra described the visit as a personal trip. “Naveen Babu has gone to Delhi to meet his elder brother Prem Patnaik, who is hospitalised after falling ill. This is his personal visit,” Mishra said.
Before boarding his flight, several senior BJD leaders including Pranab Prakash Das, Ashok Panda, Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak, Sushant Rout, Sanjay Das Burma, Saluka Pradhan, and Tukuni Sahu reached the airport to see off Naveen Patnaik.
Naveen Patnaik is expected to stay in Delhi for a few days to be with his family while his elder brother recovers.
