Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police has imposed traffic restrictions in parts of Bhubaneswar in view of the 78th Capital Foundation Day celebrations scheduled to be held on April 13.
As per an official notification, vehicular movement will be regulated along Sachivalaya Marg, from Rabindra Mandap to Jaydev Bhawan, and adjoining areas during both the rehearsal and the main function. The restrictions have been enforced under the Odisha Urban Police Act, 2003, and the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Police Commissionerate (Traffic and Public Order) Regulations, 2008.
The traffic curbs will be in force on April 12 from 6:00 am to 9:30 am for the rehearsal. On April 13, the restrictions will continue from 6:00 am until the completion of the official parade and function marking the foundation day.
According to the traffic advisory, vehicles moving from Housing Board Square towards Rabindra Mandap will be diverted at Keshari Talkies Square. Movement from AG Square towards PMG Square will be prohibited, with vehicles diverted towards Raj Mahal Square. Similarly, vehicles coming from Master Canteen side towards PMG Square will be redirected through adjoining lanes.
Authorities have also restricted entry from Unit-IV Market lane towards PMG Square and 120 Battalion Square. Vehicles from 120 Infantry Battalion Square will be diverted towards Power House Square instead of proceeding to Rabindra Mandap. In addition, vehicles coming from Lok Bhawan Square towards MLA Colony and Rabindra Mandap will be diverted at 120 Battalion Square towards Sastrinagar Square.
The police have cautioned that violation of the order will be punishable under Section 96 of the Odisha Urban Police Act, 2003.
However, the restrictions will not apply to vehicles authorised to access key government establishments, including the State Assembly and Secretariat, as well as emergency service vehicles such as police, fire services and ambulances.
Commuters have been advised to plan their travel accordingly and cooperate with the traffic authorities to ensure smooth conduct of the event.
