Sundargarh: In a late-night operation, police in Sundargarh district foiled a suspected dacoity attempt and arrested four youths who were allegedly planning a robbery near Kumbahal Chowk on the Biju Expressway under Sundargarh Sadar Police Station limits.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs, a police team conducted a raid at a secluded location late in the evening on Sunday. During the operation, officers apprehended four suspects and seized a country-made firearm, two live cartridges, one bullet, an electric scooter, as well as knives, iron rods, six masks, and other materials believed to have been intended for use in the crime.
Following their detention, the youths were interrogated and reportedly confessed to planning the dacoity. On Monday, police formally arrested the accused and forwarded them to court.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Ekantha Naik of Japanga village under Sadar Police Station, Rohan Patel of Bhedabahal, Ankit Behera of Karamdihi, and Riyan Naik.
Police officials said they suspect the involvement of the four accused in several recent dacoity incidents reported from the Nabarangpur and Karmadihi areas within the Sadar Police Station jurisdiction. Further investigation is underway.
