Bhubaneswar: East Coast Railway is strengthening its cleanliness and waste management initiatives under Swachhata Pakhwada 2026 and Special Campaign 6.0 with a focus on the proper disposal of electronic waste (e-waste), clearance of legacy waste and maintaining clean railway premises.
The campaign aims to promote environmental sustainability and encourage public participation and will continue across the jurisdiction of East Coast Railway till October 31, 2026.
As part of the cleanliness drive, special attention is being given to the disposal of e-waste and old files from office premises. The initiative aims to ensure the responsible handling of discarded electronic items and obsolete records while improving workplace cleanliness and promoting better waste management practices. Mechanised cleaning of office premises and the clearance of trackside and accumulated waste are also being undertaken as part of the campaign.
To encourage awareness about cleanliness and environmental responsibility among younger generations, quiz competitions and drawing and painting competitions for children have also been organised.
Meanwhile, under the ongoing Swachhata Campaign 6.0, Rail Jan Samvaad (Passenger Outreach Programme) was organised at Rayagada, Balangir, Barpali and Titlagarh railway stations, with enthusiastic participation from passengers and members of the public.
The programme provided a platform for passengers to interact directly with railway officials and share their experiences, suggestions and views on station amenities, train cleanliness and service delivery. The feedback received will help identify areas requiring improvement and strengthen efforts to enhance passenger satisfaction.
Through these initiatives, East Coast Railway aims to promote responsible waste management, improve cleanliness across railway premises and build greater awareness about environmental sustainability.
