New Delhi: Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla said that the Seventh Session of the 18th Lok Sabha, which commenced on January 28, concluded on Saturday, recording a productivity of 93 per cent and passage of nine government bills.
The Speaker informed the House that 31 sittings were held during the Session, which lasted for around 151 hours and 42 minutes.
Talking about the amendment bill on women’s quota, the Speaker said that the Constitution (One Hundred and Thirty-First Amendment) Bill, 2026, the Union Territories Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2026, and the Delimitation Bill, 2026 were discussed in the House on April 16 and 17.
The discussion lasted 21 hours and 27 minutes. He also informed that 131 Members participated in the discussion on the three bills. The Constitution Amendment Bill was not passed by the House, he added.
He said the President of India addressed Members of both the Houses of Parliament on January 28, and the discussion on Vote of Thanks on the President’s Address lasted for 2 hours 46 minutes.
Birla said the Finance Minister presented the Union Budget 2026-2027 on the floor of the House on February 1, and the General Discussion on the Budget lasted for approximately 13 hours.
Sharing details of the Budget discussion, Birla said that 63 Members participated in the discussion with Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman replying to the discussion on February 11.
Some of the other key bills passed during the session include: The Industrial Relations Code (Amendment) Bill, 2026; The Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Amendment Bill, 2026; Finance Bill, 2026; The Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (Amendment) Bill, 2026; The Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2026; The Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Bill, 2026 and The Central Armed Police Forces (General Administration) Bill, 2026.
Birla also informed that on March 23, the Prime Minister delivered a statement regarding the ongoing conflict in West Asia and the challenges emerging before India.
During the Session, 126 starred questions were answered orally. A total of 326 matters of public importance were raised by the Members during the Zero Hour, Birla said. A total of 650 matters were taken up under Rule 377 during the Session.
As many as 73 reports were presented by Departmentally Related Standing Committees, and as many as 2,089 papers were laid on the Table of the House, informed Birla.
He also informed that during this session, 181 statements were made by Members in 18 Indian languages, and their simultaneous interpretation was carried out successfully.
