Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance has secured the conviction of Former Dealing Assistant-cum-Despatch Clerk (Retired) of the office of the Superintending Engineer, Irrigation Circle, Baripada, Mayurbhanj district.
On Friday, the Special Judge, Vigilance, Baripada convicted Gourahari Patra and sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment for 3 years along with a fine. He was charge-sheeted by Odisha Vigilance under Section 13(2) read with 13(1)(c)(d) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and Sections 468, 420, 471, and 409 of the Indian Penal Code.
The case pertains to the misappropriation of government money that was supposed to be deposited in the bank towards fresh and renewal license fees of contractors.
Patra allegedly prepared false official records to siphon off the funds. Following the conviction, Odisha Vigilance has announced that it will move the competent authority for the stoppage of pension of the convicted former employee.
