Subarnapur: A youth was shot dead in a late-evening incident at Sub Collector Office Chowk in Birmaharajpur, triggering a police manhunt for the accused.
The incident took place between 8:30 PM and 9:00 PM on Friday behind a tea stall near the chowk. The victim, identified as Bikram Maharana of Champamal village in Subarnapur district, was found critically injured at the spot.
He was initially rushed by his friends to Sub-Divisional Hospital (SDH) in Birmaharajpur. As his condition worsened, he was referred to the District Headquarters Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Based on a complaint lodged by the deceased’s father, police have registered a case naming Shubham Pritam Hota alias Biki, a resident of the same village, as the prime accused.
The Subarnapur Superintendent of Police Narayan Nayak said that efforts are underway to trace and apprehend the accused. Preliminary investigation indicates that the shooting was carried out using an unlicensed firearm.
A forensic team has reached the crime scene and initiated a scientific examination to gather evidence. Police said further investigation is in progress.
