Bhubaneswar: Two persons were injured after a firing incident during a wedding procession at Belpunji village under Athmallik police station limits in Angul district on Tuesday night.
According to reports, the incident took place when a marriage procession from Boudh district was passing through Belpunji village. During the celebration, gunshots were allegedly fired, causing panic among the participants and locals.
Two villagers from Belpunji sustained injuries in the incident. One of them was hit in the right leg, while the other suffered a bullet injury in the right hand.
The injured persons were immediately shifted to Boudh District Headquarters Hospital for medical treatment. Their condition is stated to be serious.
Preliminary information suggests that the accused is also a resident of the Boudh district area. However, police have not yet officially confirmed the motive behind the firing.
Following the incident, Athmallik police reached the spot and launched an investigation.
