Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has reported intense heatwave conditions across various parts of Odisha, with several places experiencing maximum temperatures well above 35°C by 11:30 pm on Friday.

According to the latest data from the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar, Jharsuguda has recorded a blistering 40.6°C before noon, followed closely by Rourkela at 39.2°C.

As per the latest IMD bulletin issued at 11:30 am, other notable high temperatures include Sambalpur at 38.6°C, Hirakud at 38.6°C, Keonjhar at 38°C, Chandbali at 35.8°C, Bhubaneswar at 35°C, Balasore at 33.8°C, Puri at 33°C, and Gopalpur and Paradip at 31.2°C each.

The state is grappling with hot and dry conditions, prompting concerns over heatwave-like situations, especially in interior and western regions.

Public have been advised to take necessary precautions to avoid heat-related illnesses. People are urged to avoid direct exposure to sunlight, especially between 11 am and 4 pm, stay hydrated, and wear light, loose-fitting clothes. Special care should be taken for children, the elderly and outdoor workers. Farmers and labourers are advised to reschedule heavy field work to early morning or evening hours.
