New Delhi: The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) on Friday said that it has strengthened oversight of large-scale infrastructure development through its PAIMANA platform, which is currently tracking 1,941 central sector projects worth Rs 41.50 lakh crore as of March.

The government said the digital monitoring system is enhancing transparency, enabling timely reviews, and supporting data-driven decision-making across ministries.

According to the latest update, these projects — spread across 17 central ministries and departments — have recorded a cumulative expenditure of Rs 19.93 lakh crore, translating to about 48.02 per cent of the total revised cost.

This reflects steady progress in execution, with a substantial number of projects advancing toward completion.

A significant share of the monitored projects is already in advanced stages. Around 777 projects, or nearly 40 per cent, have achieved more than 80 per cent physical progress, while 261 projects have crossed the 80 per cent mark in financial completion.

At the same time, the pipeline remains balanced, with several projects in early phases — indicating a continuous rollout of new infrastructure initiatives alongside nearing completions.

The transport and logistics sector continues to dominate India’s infrastructure landscape, accounting for 1,428 projects with a revised cost of Rs 22.66 lakh crore.

This underscores the government’s continued emphasis on connectivity-led growth spanning roads, railways, aviation, and waterways.

Among ministries, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways lead with 1,120 projects — about 58 per cent of the total — valued at Rs 10.61 lakh crore.

The Ministry of Railways follows with 244 projects and the largest cost share of Rs 8.37 lakh crore.

Other key contributors include the ministries of coal, petroleum and natural gas, power, and housing and urban affairs.

In terms of project scale, the monitored portfolio includes 786 mega projects, each costing Rs 1,000 crore or more, with a combined original cost of Rs 30.48 lakh crore.

Additionally, 1,155 major projects with costs below Rs 1,000 crore contribute Rs 5.41 lakh crore to the overall pipeline.

Sector-wise, transport and logistics account for 55 per cent of the total revised cost, followed by energy at 26 per cent.

Communication infrastructure, water and sanitation, and social infrastructure projects together make up the remaining share, pointing to a diversified development strategy.
