Cooking Gas Supply Normal, Fuel Stocks Sufficient Across Odisha: Minister

Bhubaneswar: Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister  Krushna Chandra Patra on Tuesday reviewed the availability of cooking gas and petroleum products in Bhubaneswar and assured that supplies across the state remain stable, with no immediate risk of shortages or price hikes.

At a meeting held at Lok Seva Bhavan, the minister met representatives of major fuel and gas distribution companies, including Indian Oil Corporation Limited, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited and Adani Group, to assess the current supply situation.

Officials informed the meeting that the supply of domestic LPG cylinders is “completely normal,” with consumers receiving deliveries within scheduled timelines after booking. The minister said public concerns over a possible gas shortage have been effectively addressed.

In the commercial segment, around 80 per cent of LPG demand is being met, ensuring that hotels and restaurants continue to receive adequate supply.

Reviewing liquid fuel availability, Patra said there are sufficient stocks of petrol and diesel across the state. He also clarified that there is no indication of any imminent increase in fuel prices and urged citizens not to be misled by rumours circulating on social media.

Highlighting enforcement efforts, the minister termed the recent seizure of over 7,000 illegal LPG cylinders as a major achievement and warned that black marketing of cooking gas and fuel would not be tolerated.

Patra directed oil marketing companies to step up the supply of 5-kg LPG cylinders, expand the piped natural gas (PNG) network to more urban areas, and strengthen corporate social responsibility initiatives.

Senior officials of the Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Department and representatives of fuel distribution companies were present at the meeting.
