Nabarangpur: Three police personnel were suspended on Wednesday after a rape accused allegedly died by suicide inside a police station in Nabarangpur district, officials said.
The accused, identified as Purna Kalar of Medena panchayat, was found hanging inside Dabugaon police station in the morning. He allegedly used his own bedsheet to take the extreme step while in custody.
Taking serious note of the incident, Nabarangpur Superintendent of Police Madkar Sandeep Sampat ordered the suspension of Sub-Inspector Vikram Sahu, who was on duty at the police station, along with two OAPF constables, Karan Pujari and Buduram Majhi, who were posted on sentry duty at the time.
Further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact circumstances leading to the custodial death.
