Balangir: The carcass of a tusker was found in a cashew orchard at Chanutmala village under Muribahal Range in Balangir district.
According to reports, the owner of the cashew orchard informed that he noticed the carcass early in the morning and promptly informed the forest department. A team from the Forest Department subsequently reached the spot and initiated a detailed investigation to ascertain the cause of the elephant’s death.
Locals reported that a rogue elephant was frequently seen roaming in the area for the past several days, causing extensive damage to standing crops and creating panic among villagers.
It is pertinent to mention that this is the second tusker death in the region within the last four months. Earlier, another tusker had died in the same area approximately four months ago.
The Forest Department has, meanwhile, started a thorough probe to ascertain the exact cause of the elephant’s death.
