Bhubaneswar: The body of one of the two youths who went missing at Kuanria Dam in Dasapalla area of Nayagarh district was recovered on Friday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Pradeep Pradhan, a resident of a village in the district. The second youth is still missing, and a search operation is underway.
According to reports, a group of around seven youths from a local village had gone to the Kuanria Dam yesterday evening to catch fish. As a strong Kalabaisakhi storm with heavy rain and strong winds hit the area, five of them returned safely. However, Pradeep Pradhan and his friend could not return and went missing.
Fire service personnel, along with local police and divers, launched a search operation early this morning. The body of Pradeep Pradhan was recovered from the dam after several hours of searching.
The body has been sent for post-mortem. Police have registered a case of unnatural death and are investigating the incident.
The search for the second missing youth is continuing with the help of firefighters and local volunteers. Family members of both youths are in a state of shock.
