Bhubaneswar: A devastating fire broke out in the wee hours of Wednesday at Basant Villa Apartment in the Laxmisagar area of Bhubaneswar, resulting in the death of two caretakers.
The deceased have been identified as Biswajit Behera, a security guard, and Sulabha Behera, a caretaker. A minor girl also sustained serious injuries in the blaze and has been rushed to a hospital for treatment.
According to preliminary information, the fire originated from a short circuit in the electrical panel board in the guard room. The incident occurred around 4 am when most residents were asleep.
Fire brigade officials were immediately informed and rushed to the spot. Fire brigade teams successfully brought the blaze under control. They also carried out rescue operations for residents trapped inside the building. The security guard and caretaker are reported to have died due to suffocation and burn injuries. Significant property damage has also been reported from the apartment.
Police have launched initiated an investigation into the incident. Further details are awaited as police continue to assess the situation.
