Dabugaon: In a major disciplinary action, Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) of Dabugaon Police Station in Nabarangpur district has been suspended for dereliction of duty in connection with the suicide of a youth inside the police station.
Director General of Police (DGP) YB Khurania ordered the suspension of Raghunath Majhi. This comes after Purna Kalar, a resident of Anchala village under Medana panchayat, died under suspicious circumstances while in police custody last month.
Earlier, three other police personnel were also suspended in the same case — Sub-Inspector Bikram Sahu, and two OAPF constables, Karn Pujari and Budhiram Majhi.
The custodial death had sparked widespread outrage, leading to protests and road blockades by locals demanding justice and strict action against the erring officers.
The state police administration has taken swift action to maintain accountability and restore public confidence in the force. Further investigation into the incident is underway.
