Bhubaneswar: In a significant development, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Crime Branch has taken full charge of the investigation into two highly sensitive Balianta Mob lynching case.
The cases pertain to the alleged sexual assault on a woman in full public view and the subsequent death of Soumya Ranjan Swain, who was reportedly killed by a mob. Considering the gravity and sensitivity of the incidents, the Director General of Police (DGP), Odisha, has ordered the transfer of the probe to the CID Crime Branch for a thorough, impartial, and professional investigation.
According to official sources, Ratnaprava Satapathy, Deputy Superintendent of Police, CID -Crime Branch, has been deputed to lead the investigation at the spot. The probe is being conducted under the direct supervision of Anirudha Routray, Superintendent of Police, CID Crime Branch, with an emphasis on ensuring complete clarity, transparency, and fairness.
The transfer of the cases to the elite investigating agency comes amid public concern over the shocking nature of the alleged crimes. Senior officials have assured that every aspect of the incidents will be examined meticulously and all those responsible will be brought to justice.
Earlier on Saturday, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has ordered the Crime Branch to investigate the incident.
