Ex-Bengal Minister Sujit Bose Appears Before ED In Municipal Job Corruption Case

Kolkata: Former West Bengal Minister Sujit Bose on Monday appeared before Enforcement Directorate (ED) officers for questioning in connection with the municipal recruitment corruption case.

He went to the ED’s CGO Complex office in the Salt Lake area of Kolkata, along with his son Samudra Bose, who was also summoned by the ED in the same case. He reached the ED office at 10:30 a.m, said an ED officer.

On April 6, the day of filing nomination papers for the Assembly election, Sujit Bose received multiple notices from the ED, asking him to appear for questioning. At that time, he approached the Calcutta High Court seeking time, saying that he was busy with election campaigning.

Trinamool sources claimed that the Trinamool candidate from Bidhannagar avoided the ED’s presence during the elections in compliance with the court’s order. As soon as the voting was over, Sujit Bose faced the ED investigators at the Salt Lake CGO Complex on May 1 in cooperation with the investigation into the municipal recruitment corruption case. He was accompanied by his lawyer then and left the office after several hours. That day, Sujit said that he had come to the ED office with a copy of the court order.

It is worth noting that even before the Assembly elections, the ED had summoned Sujit Bose, his wife, son and daughter several times in the municipal recruitment corruption case. They also appeared before the agency.

The ED officials, along with the central forces, conducted raids at several places, including the minister’s house, office, and his son’s restaurant adjacent to VIP Road. He had criticised the ED’s activities during the elections.

Sujit had alleged a ‘conspiracy’ in the name of investigation. He had told the media, “Sujit Bose’s condition is not so bad that he has to sell his job to earn money. People know that. This is a conspiracy by the Election Commission and the ED.”

However, the former minister did not say anything else before appearing at the ED office on Monday.
