Bhubaneswar: In an unfortunate incident, a patient seeking treatment for chest pain was accidentally administered an anti-rabies vaccine at a primary health centre in Kendrapara district on Wednesday.
Anant Jena had gone to the Karilopatna Primary Health Centre complaining of chest pain. While waiting, he was seated next to another patient who had come specifically for a rabies shot. In the confusion, a pharmacist at the centre mistakenly gave the anti-rabies injection to Jena.
Soon after receiving the shot, Jena began feeling dizzy and nauseous. He immediately informed the pharmacist, who realised the error and promptly referred him to the Kendrapara District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) for further observation and treatment.
Dr Sunil Kumar Sahu, while confirming the incident, said it took place amid a sudden rush at the health centre when a review team from Kendrapara had arrived for inspection. He assured that the anti-rabies vaccine is safe and does not cause any serious side effects.
