Bhubaneswar: The Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar on Saturday issued a nowcast yellow warning for nine districts of Odisha, forecasting thunderstorm activity accompanied by lightning, light to moderate rainfall and gusty surface winds during the next three hours.
According to the weather office, thunderstorm with lightning and winds reaching speeds of 30-40 kmph is likely to occur at one or two places in Cuttack, Khordha, Sambalpur, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Nayagarh, Bargarh, Jharsuguda and Sonepur districts.
The warning, issued at 5:15 PM on Saturday, advised people to remain alert and keep a close watch on changing weather conditions.
Residents in the affected districts have been urged to move to safer places during thunderstorm activity and take necessary precautions to protect themselves from possible lightning strikes.
The Meteorological Centre said the warning is part of its nowcast monitoring system aimed at providing short-term weather alerts for public safety.
