Bargarh: Police busted an illegal gambling den in Gundichadihi village under the Jagdalpur police station limits in Bargarh district and arrested seven persons, while two others managed to flee, police said on Saturday.
All the arrested individuals are residents of Mahasamund district in Chhattisgarh.
Acting on a tip-off, a special team from the Jagdalpur police station conducted a raid in a forested area near Gundichadihi village, where gambling activities were allegedly taking place under a mahua tree at night.
According to Padampur SDPO Pandab Sabar, the accused were using battery-powered lights to facilitate gambling in the dark. When the police team reached the spot and cordoned off the area, seven persons were caught on the spot, while two others escaped by taking advantage of the darkness.
During the raid, police seized ₹1.40 lakh in cash, three motorcycles, two cars, 11 mobile phones, 150 playing cards, and other items used for gambling.
Police said further investigation is underway, and efforts are being made to trace the two absconding accused. The arrested persons were produced before the court today.
