Bhubaneswar: At least 15 people were injured after a pickup van carrying a marriage party overturned near Bandania village under Kankadahad police station limits in Dhenkanal district on Monday.
According to reports, the vehicle was carrying 22 passengers from the Ghasipura area of Keonjhar district and was on its way to Kalasapur village under Balikuma Panchayat in Dhenkanal when the accident occurred.
The mishap took place after the rear tyre of the pickup van reportedly burst, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle. The van subsequently overturned on the roadside, leaving several passengers injured.
Locals and emergency responders rushed to the spot following the incident. All the injured were rescued by fire brigade personnel and shifted to Kamakhyanagar Community Health Centre (CHC) in 108 ambulances for treatment. The injured sustained injuries on their head, hands and legs, sources said.
On being informed, Kankadahad police reached the spot and initiated an investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the accident.
