Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued weather warnings for the next three days across several districts of Odisha, with an Orange Warning in place for Tuesday indicating the possibility of intense thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and strong gusty winds.
On Tuesday, an Orange Warning has been issued for thunderstorms with lightning and gusty surface winds reaching 50-60 kmph at one or two places over Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundergarh, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada and Jagatsinghpur. Yellow Warning has been issued for thunderstorms with winds of 40-50 kmph over Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri while thunderstorms with winds of 30-40 kmph are likely over Cuttack, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal and Nawarangpur. Hot and humid conditions are also expected at isolated places over several coastal and northern districts.
For Wednesday, the Orange Warning continues for thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds of 50-60 kmph over Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundergarh, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur and Cuttack. Yellow Warning has been issued for thunderstorms with winds of 40-50 kmph over Angul, Dhenkanal, Boudh, Kandhamal, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri while lighter thunderstorms with 30-40 kmph winds are likely over western districts. Heat wave conditions are expected at isolated places over Jharsuguda, Boudh and Mayurbhanj while hot and humid weather will continue in many areas.
On Thursday, Orange Warning is in force for Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar and Balasore for thunderstorms with winds up to 50-60 kmph. Yellow Warning covers a wider area with thunderstorms and winds of 40-50 kmph likely over Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Angul, Dhenkanal, Deogarh, Sundergarh, Sambalpur, Boudh, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri. Heat wave conditions are likely at isolated places over Jharsuguda, Boudh, Angul, Sambalpur, Balasore and Bhadrak while hot and humid conditions will persist in several districts.
The IMD has advised people in the affected districts to remain alert as thunderstorms with lightning and strong winds may damage loose structures, trees and power lines. Residents are requested to avoid open areas during thunderstorms and stay updated with official weather bulletins.
