Bhubaneswar: Private sector defence company Nibe Limited has achieved a major milestone with the successful firing trials of its Suryastra long-range rockets at the Integrated Test Range (ITR), Chandipur in Balasore district of Odisha.
The tests included two variants — one with a range of 150 km and another with 300 km. According to officials, the 150 km variant achieved an impressive Circular Error Probable (CEP) of 1.5 metres, while the 300 km variant recorded a CEP of 2 metres, demonstrating high accuracy.
The trials were conducted as part of a procurement order placed by the Indian Army. The successful demonstration validates the Suryastra rocket system as a viable deep-strike weapon, providing the Army with enhanced long-range precision fire capability that effectively complements existing tactical ballistic and cruise missiles.
Defence experts have welcomed the development, noting that the integration of such long-range rocket artillery with the Indian Air Force’s offensive counter-air operations will significantly boost India’s overall combat effectiveness along the borders.
The successful Suryastra trials underscore the growing contribution of India’s private defence industry in developing advanced indigenous weapon systems, marking another step towards strengthening the country’s defence preparedness and self-reliance (Atmanirbhar Bharat).
