Bhubaneswar: Western Odisha is reeling under severe heatwave conditions as Jharsuguda recorded the highest temperature of 41.8°C at 11:30 am today, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Temperatures remained extremely high in other parts of the state as well, with Sambalpur recording 41.2°C, Hirakud 40.6°C, Keonjhar 39.4°C, Bhubaneswar 38.4°C, and Rourkela 38.0°C.
In Bhubaneswar, the temperature touched 38.4°C at 11:30 am, a sharp rise from 35.4°C recorded at the same time yesterday. With relative humidity at 56%, the heat index (feels-like temperature) reached approximately 53°C, making the conditions extremely oppressive.
People have been advised to stay hydrated, avoid direct sun exposure during peak hours, and take extra precautions, especially vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly, and outdoor workers.
